For Jeff's 40th birthday, I planned the most fun surprise ever!
I told him that we were going out to dinner with our friends at La Caille in Salt Lake. I told him that I had rented a limo to pick us up and take us. I told him that we were all going to dress up black tie for the occasion. I made it sound like we were going "big" on this one because it was his 40th and it was going to be this fun night.
I did a Casino Royal style party.
All the guests came dressed in black tie and met at the Provo Marriott shortly before we were to arrive. I had rented a craps table, a poker table, a roulette table and two black jack tables from a casino party company. They were all set up in the Marriott ready to go.
Well, 2 months prior to this party, I had his work take a picture of him in his tux. They used the excuse that a team member was doing an Agelcares Poker tournament benefit and that they wanted a picture of him and Craig Bradley (who was in on this) on the advertising. Since I had the picture taken so early before his big day, he didn't even put two and two together!
I had this invite made up and sent it out to his closest friends and family. That was the hard part. There were so many that I could have invited but I just had to draw the line somewhere.
But it turned out great!
So our friends arrive at our house and got in the limo to pick us up. Jeff was so surprised because Mark and Allison had flown in from Arizona for his party. We all crawled in the limo and headed over. Jeff was in the middle of telling this story and didn't even notice that we had got off the freeway in Provo instead of Salt Lake. He was really confused when we were at the Marriott..... He kept asking questions like, "Why are we here? -- Are we eating here? -- What are we doing here?" I just ignored him and told him to follow me. He and all our friends followed me down the hall to the banquet room and all his friends were in there silently waiting. We walked in and they all broke out into the "Happy Birthday" song. He was so surprised!
